How do I get the most out of my cast iron?

To get the most out of your cast iron, follow the tips below:

1. Season your cast iron before using it for the first time

1. Hand wash your cast iron with warm soapy water and a sponge.

2. Dry thoroughly with a paper towel or cloth.

3. Rub a thin layer of oil onto the surface - use vegetable, canola or flaxseed oil.

4. Preheat your oven to 400F / 205C.

5. Place your cast iron upside down in your oven (place a tray at the bottom to catch drips).

6. Bake your cast iron for one hour, then leave to cool in the oven.

2. Clean your cast iron after each use

1. Hand wash your cast iron with warm soapy water and a sponge or stiff brush.

2. Dry thoroughly with a paper towel or cloth.

3. Rub a thin layer of oil onto the surface - use vegetable, canola or flaxseed oil.

4. Store in a dry environment.

* Note: Never leave your cast iron to soak in water or store while wet.

3. Re-season your cast iron as necessary

  • If your cast iron becomes dull or sticky, repeat the seasoning process.
  • For best results, re-season your cast iron every three months.

4. Use your cast iron often

  • The more you use your cast iron, the better the seasoning will become.
