July 26 2024 10:04am • Est. Read Time: 2 MIN

a. Standard view: Hold the trigger and move the laser around the stone. This will read the minimum and maximum temperature and give the average reading.

b. Essentials view: Gives a standard temperature reading.

To use your Ooni Infrared Thermometer, follow the steps below. The steps will differ depending on which model you have.

Model 1

Step 1.  Turn the base of the handle counterclockwise and remove the battery holder. Insert the provided AAA batteries and insert the holder back into the gun. Turn the base clockwise until secure.

Step 2. Hold the infrared thermometer 12 to 20 inches (30 to 50 centimetres) away from the mouth of your oven. If you're too far away, the reading won't be accurate. Press and hold the trigger to take a reading of the center of your baking stone. Release the trigger.

Step 3. When your infrared thermometer reads your desired temperature, launch your pizza. For a classic Neapolitan-style pizza, your thermometer should read 750ºF (400ºC) or higher.

Note: You can set your preferred unit of measurement, the type of surface you want to read, the way you take the temperature, and choose whether you want the laser to be visible or not by pressing the buttons underneath the screen:

a. = Laser on/off button
b. = Mode button
c. = Change unit of measurement between °C and °F

Mode button options: Press the Mode button to toggle between Standard View and Essentials View.

a. Standard view: Hold the trigger and move the laser around the stone. This will read the minimum and maximum temperature and give the average reading.

Emissivity Mode. Emissivity measures the amount of energy radiated from a material’s surface. In the case of this Digital Infrared Thermometer, it measures thermal energy. Emissivity mode will help bakers adjust their thermometer’s settings to get accurate temperature readings off different kinds of materials like a rough baking stone versus a smooth pizza steel. The Digital Infrared Thermometer is pre-set at an emissivity of 0.95 which is standard for most organic materials and is optimised with all Ooni baking stones.

To change the emissivity, press and hold the Mode button for five seconds. Once in Emissivity Mode, use the Unit button to cycle through the numerical values. To select a new value and exit Emissivity Mode, press and hold the Mode button for five seconds.

The new value will not be saved if the trigger is pressed or your thermometer automatically powers off while in Emissivity Mode.

Model 2

Step 1. Place your finger on the groove in line with the trigger. Pull the section forward and insert the provided AAA batteries. Close the section until it clicks back into place.

Step 2. Hold your infrared thermometer 6 inches (15 centimetres) away from the mouth of your oven.
