Yes - it’s normal for parts of your Ooni Karu 2 Pro that are exposed to extremely high temperatures to show signs of rust, patina or oxidation. This will not affect the way your oven performs in any way, you can keep on cooking with confidence!

Can I remove patina/oxidation?

The best way to minimise patina / oxidation is by following the steps below:

  1. After use, wait until your oven is completely cool
  2. Wipe down the powder coated shell with a dry microfibre cloth
  3. After the shell has been cleaned, wipe down the inside of your oven with a paper towel or rag and stainless steel cleaner, such as Bar Keeper’s Friend or Weiman Stainless Steel Cleaner.

It’s natural for outdoor cooking appliances to show signs of rust, patina or oxidation, but there are a few things you can do to keep your Ooni Karu 2 Pro looking as good as possible:

  1. Store your Ooni Karu 2 Pro under a carry cover
  2. Store your Ooni Karu 2 Pro indoors or in a covered area if not in use for an extended period of time
  3. Clean your Ooni Karu 2 Pro when needed
  4. Never use abrasive cleaning products to clean your oven
