My Ooni Karu 2 Pro isn't getting hot enough or has an underpowered flame.

If your Ooni Karu 2 Pro is not reaching top cooking temperatures, follow the steps below.

If using gas:

  1. Disconnect your regulator from the gas bottle and leave it for around 5 minutes.

  2. Reconnect the gas regulator and very slowly open the gas tap on your propane tank.

  3. Check that your oven is on a flat surface. Uneven surfaces can affect the flow of oxygen, reducing the flame.

  4. Push in and very slowly turn the gas control dial on your gas burner anti-clockwise. There will be a slight delay as the gas moves through the hose to the burner, and so it’s very important that this action takes 5 seconds from 12 o'clock to 9 o'clock.

  5. Once your gas burner has lit, continue to hold in the control knob for at least 5 more seconds. This gives the burner the chance to light fully and encourages the gas to flow.

If your Ooni Karu 2 Pro is still not getting hot enough after performing the steps above, follow the steps below:

  1. Make sure your infrared thermometer gun is set to the correct emissivity level to ensure the correct temperature is recorded. Ooni infrared thermometers are pre-set, so these will be accurate and cannot be adjusted. If it's not an Ooni infrared thermometer gun, make sure the emissivity level is set to 0.95.

  2. Make sure the infrared thermometer gun is held close enough when recording the temperature. Hold it 6 inches (15cm) from the mouth of the oven.

  3. Make sure the oven door is open when reading the temperature with the infrared thermometer. Taking the temperature through the glass will not give the most accurate reading.

  4. Make sure you’re using the correct gas tank. If the tank is too small, your oven may not reach optimal temperatures.

  5. Make sure you’re using the correct regulator. If the regulator is the wrong mBar, it may not be letting through enough gas.

  6. Make sure your gas burner is set up correctly (refer to the set-up guidelines in this article here).

  7. Make sure your oven door is closed.

  8. Make sure your chimney is on, your chimney baffle is open:

  9. Consider the weather conditions:

    • If it’s very cold outside, you may need to allow a little bit longer for your oven and stone to preheat.

    • If it’s windy outside, this will reduce the strength of the flame. Always avoid firing up in overly windy conditions, or position your oven so that the opening is facing downwind.

If using solid fuel:

  1. Make sure your fuel tray is not too full. If it’s too full, it will restrict airflow.

  2. Make sure your fuel is completely dry. If any moisture has gotten into your fuel, it will reduce performance.

  3. Make sure the hardwood you’re using is the right size (our Ooni Premium Assorted Oak Pack is perfect).

  4. Make sure you are using lumpwood charcoal instead of briquettes. (Our Ooni Premium Lumpwood Charcoal is perfect).

  5. Make sure your chimney cap is removed and both chimney baffles are open.

  6. Make sure your oven door is closed.

  7. Make sure your infrared thermometer gun is set to the correct emissivity level to ensure the correct temperature is being recorded. Ooni infrared thermometers are pre-set, so these will be accurate and cannot be adjusted. If it's not an Ooni infrared thermometer gun, make sure the emissivity level is set to 0.95.

  8. Make sure the infrared thermometer gun is held close enough when recording the temperature. Hold it 6 inches (15cm) from the mouth of the oven.

  9. Make sure the oven door is open when reading the temperature with the infrared thermometer. Taking the temperature through the glass will not give the most accurate reading.

If your Ooni Karu 2 Pro is still not getting hot enough after following the steps above, submit a support request and we'll be able to help. We'll ask you for:

  • Your oven or gas burner's serial number
  • A video of your setup that shows:
    • Your oven being lit
    • The flames while running
    • Your gas tank and regulator (is using gas)

* The easiest way to upload your video is to follow the steps in this article: How do I upload and send a video
