Getting Started with the Ooni Karu 2

To set up your Ooni Karu 2, follow the steps below:

  1. Unpack your oven, attach the door, unfold the legs and lock the rear leg with the supplied Torx key (see picture below). Insert the stone.

  2. Place your oven on an outdoor surface made of stone, metal, or wood. Tables made of glass or plastic are not recommended. Do not use your oven indoors.
  3. Allow your oven 3 feet/1 meter of clearance on all sides and 9 feet/3 meters above.

If working with solid fuels:

  1. Remove the chimney cap and open the chimney baffle.
  2. Remove the fuel tray from the oven and place a layer of charcoal into it. Then, add 4-5 pieces of hardwood on top.
  3. Place a natural firestarter on top of the wood or underneath the fuel grate. Make sure the firestarters are free from kerosene or other chemical additives.
  4. Slide the fuel tray back into the oven and close the door.
  5. Open the rear hatch and light the firefighter. Gather your pizza peel, dough, and toppings - your oven will be fully preheated in 15 minutes. This may take longer in colder weather.

If working with gas:

  1. Connect your gas burner to your oven.
  2. Ensure the chimney baffle is open, the rear fuel hatch is removed, as well as the door while lighting.
  3. Connect the regulator and hose to your propane tank.
  4. Open up the flow of gas by turning the valve on your propane tank.
  5. Find the control knob on the back of the gas burner. Push in and slowly turn the control knob counterclockwise for 5 seconds until you hear a click and the burner ignites.
  6. Continue to push in the control knob for 5 seconds after ignition, then release.
  7. Close the door and put the rear fuel hatch back on.
  8. Gather your pizza peel, dough, and toppings - your oven will be fully preheated in 15 minutes.

When using your oven for the first time, let it run at a high temperature (750°F/400°C) for 30 minutes, then cool it down completely to season the oven and ready it for use.

Don't forget to turn off the flow of gas on your propane tank when you're finished cooking!
